Description
GENERAL INFORMATION OF 4-MEC (4-Methylethcathinone):
4-MEC or 4-methylethcathinone, has emerged in recent years as a recreational psychostimulant. Its synthesis was first published in 2010 as part of an analytical confirmation related to test purchases from online retailers. It is chemically similar to Mephedrone and they are both cathinones.
SUBSTANCE IDENTIFICATION:
4-MEC, contains a 2-amino-1-phenylpropan-1-one nucleus which forms the structural basis for many cathinone-based substances that are known to interact with a range of targets found, for example, in the central nervous system. 4-MEC (4-Methylethcathinone) has formal name: 4-Methyl-N-ethylcathinone; 2-Ethylamino-1-p-tolylpropan-1-one. The chemical formula for 4-MEC is C12H17NO with a molecular weight of 191.274
EFFECT AND DOSAGE OF 4-MEC (4-Methylethcathinone):
Similar to other well-established psychostimulants, a key principle involved in the molecular mechanisms of 4-MEC is the interaction with transport proteins that lead to the elevation of extracellular neurotransmitter levels, most notably, dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (noradrenaline, NE) and serotonin (5-HT), respectively.
TOXICOLOGY OF 4-MEC (4-Methylethcathinone):
There are no published pre-clinical safety data available concerning the toxicity, reproductive impact and carcinogenic/mutagenic potential of 4-MEC.
